Monday:
In this tab I plan to discuss my daily work outs, eating habits, workout gear, motivation tips and more!
I
am a little addicted to working out right now... in a healthy way! I
have the desire and ability to do something everyday! I love the burn! I
am motivated by the challenge of a new workout more, longer run or new
route! I am in love with a class at the gym (kinesis at
Gateway Fitness)!
I am enjoying the challenge of running! This is all stuff I have known
and felt before but it often comes and goes. Let's hope it stays this
time!
Monday
Workout
Kinesis (circuit training boot camp style) at the gym (45 minutes)- lots of squats and arms today!
Ran Cushman Trail with Erica & strollers (45 minutes and 3.75 miles) a little slow with the needy girls! :)
Diet:
If
you are anything like me working out does not really allow you to eat
anything you want. I have been running consistently for about 2 months
now and instead of losing weight I have gained some and then some
more... everyone says it muscle... I think I was convincing myself that I
could eat cookies... not the case. :( So, today is a new day and I am
eating CLEAN (in foods truest form and no process stuff) and healthy! At
least as much as possible!
Here's what I have had today, so far:
Bfast: oatmeal with almond butter, apples and almond milk! (yum)
lunch: caprese cottage cheese salad, 1/2 avocado, 1 of these
(ok,
these may not be clean but I love chocolate and it's better than a
whole cookie!) If you had not had these I advise you to go to Trader
Joe's NOW!
Nutrition:
I am currently taking a nutrition class online through
Coursera
and it is awesome! If you don't know anything about Coursera check out
their website and sign up for a class. It is a network of free online
college classes taught by real professors from high ranking universities
around the country! I have taken a class through John Hopkins
University and my current nutrition class is through Vanderbilt. They
even have the option now to pay a small fee and receive real college
credit! I am just doing it for fun and to challenge my mind and learn
something new. Anyways, I have learned a lot about nutrition so far.
Our first assignment was to track our food intake for 3 days. I have
always wanted to do this but really never had the motivation until a
class asked me to do it. I learned a lot about portion control, serving
sizes, daily intake and my personal needs! I highly advise you to step
back and check your diet as well as sign up for a class to get your mind
working and to learn something new!
Tips:
I am not a natural runner so I need lots of mind tricks to get me going and keep me going.
1. I cannot recommend
Couch to 5K enough.
I participated in this workout plan in Denver and ran and finished a 5K
there! It's great for beginners or people returning to running! It is
slow and gradual and really effective! Don't just go out there and try
to run 5 miles. Follow this program and if it seems easy at first be
thankful and wait because it will get harder if you are just starting
out!
2. Tell yourself positive things. Now that I can
run a 5K consistently I have to tell myself to keep going. All I tell
myself is, "DO NOT WALK!!!" Remember, if you are out running you are
lapping everyone on the couch!!
3. Don't forget to
walk!! Sounds strange but I am a huge fan of power walking! On my off
days or if I am just not feeling a run or I have to push Trevi I love a
good hard power walk! Think fast pace, hills, some good scenery and you
will be sweaty before you know it!
4. Find a friend!
Any workout is way easier if something else is there to accompany you!
Better yet, find someone who will push you!
